The Great Himalaya Trail, Climate Smart Celebrity Trek (GHT-CSCT) Concludes
 
The expedition along the Great Himalaya Trail led by Apa Sherpa and his team has concluded in Darchula district of Far Western Nepal on 20th April 2012.
 
 
The trek began from Ghunsa, Taplejung in far eastern Nepal on the 24th of January 2012. The team walked a total of 1,449 km and completed walking the entire trail in 88 days.
 
 
After being flagged off by his Excellency Rt. Honorable President of Nepal, Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, the team had left Kathmandu on 15th January, 2012 on their way to the Great Himalaya Trail.
 
It took them 9 days of travel and 106 kilometers of walk before they reached Ghunsa, the starting point of the trek.
 
 
The trek was joined at various stages by members of diplomatic communities. These include Ms. Hanaa Singer, Country Representative of UNICEF in Nepal and Her Excellency the German Ambassador, Verena Graffin von Roedern.
 
 
Furthermore, Mr. Paribesh Pradhan (supported by SDC), Ms. Linda Bezemer (SNV- GHTDP staff) and Ms. Elizabeth Fox joined Apa Sherpa at various stages of this historic trek.
 
 
GHT-CSCT was organized by Himalayan Climate Initiative with support of the Government of Nepal, particularly the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
 
 
It is also supported by DFID, British Council, SNV, Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), NTB and TAAN. The corporate partners of the event are Geo-Eye, Asian Trekking, The North Face and Dell.
 
 
Himalayan Climate Initiative (HCI), the organizer of this historic trek, is a civil society led national initiative to build a peaceful, prosperous and climate resilient Nepal, and to establish environmental, social and economic significance of the Himalayas across the globe.
