Pokhara is the core of many adventure sports in Nepal. If you want to add some excitement to your travel, this is the place for you.
One of the sports that will take you high on adrenaline levels would be paragliding from Sarangkot view point. It is a 25 minute drive to the Sarangkot point which is arranged by the company you fly with.
Once you get there, you will witness many people taking their flight before you. That sight by itself is exhilarating. With a little bit of fear and a whole lot of excitement I was ready for my flight. After going through the instructions and harnessing myself, I was ready to take this flight with my pilot Roman. He is a Russian by origin and has been flying ever since he was 14. With his command I started to run, but I failed the first time. Roman's patience made me more comfortable for the second trial. This time I paced myself with him and in no time, I was flying. The take off was breathtaking. I was in disbelief. I was in the air. I was flying.
After the take off we rose to a much higher altitude from where I could see the eagles circling below us. The pleasant weather and clear skies made for an extraordinary sight. We were flying amidst the Annapurna range overlooking the valley of rice paddy fields with tiny huts amongst them and the Fewa Lake. I couldn’t believe I took off from the height of 1425m and landed at the bank of Fewa Lake. This 25 minute journey was definitely the most thrilling one for me.
It was an incredible experience and is totally worth a try.
There are several companies that offer Paragliding flights in Pokhara. I had my thrilling flight with the Avia Club (http://aviaclubnepal.com/). The pilots are very well experienced and extremely well trained. Not only that, they are so warm and friendly that they make you feel completely at ease.
